BREAKING NEWS. !!!, BSU-ASUU SET TO CALL OFF 2MONTHS PLUS OLD STRIKE

Barring any last minute changes, lecturers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Benue State University (BSU) will
end their three month long strike action today. According to reliable sources, the lecturers are billed to hold a congress meeting today, 17th July, 2017 to consider calling off the protracted strike after the state government earlier yesterday made a significant shift of grounds to agreed to their demands. It was gathered that the state government, amongst other demands, has agreed to pay four months of the earned allowances while paying salaries for the month of June and July. Furthermore, the state government has assured that subsequent arrears of earned allowance will all be taken care off as it has authorised the university authority to pay monthly, from the university’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). Speaking on the phone to our correspondent, a member of the union who spoke on account of anonymity since according to him he was not authorised to discuss with the press, affirmed the government recent position adding that the union would “most probably accept the new conditions”. ” Yes I am aware that the government has advanced us with a new position, I am sure this will go well if the government keeps its end this time around. Most of us are already tired of this stalemate and since the government has shown the will to solve this problem, we will most probably accept the new conditions. ASUU is meeting tomorrow, the result is most possibly positive “. He said Meanwhile all our efforts to reach the ASUU chairman, Professor David Ikoni proved futile as he did not answer his phone.
